WHAT WE DO
What We Do
Service is what we do, and TCS has been recognized by the Central Region and the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Chicago for impacting Oak Park, IL and its neighboring areas.
Theta Chi Sigma Alumnae Chapter has ongoing involvement with (the oldest Boys and Girls Club in Chicago on Chicago’s west side); Ronald McDonald House and Vital Bridges (an organization that helps people affected by HIV/AIDS live healthier lives). Noted for our service, TCS has received 1st Place Central regional awards for Youth Symposium, Mwanamugimu Essay Contest, Project Cradle Care, and Operation Big Book Bag. Additionally, TCS has been active with the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Chicago and have been recognized with numerous individual and leadership awards since 2006.
Empowerment of youth is the hallmark of the chapter’s originated activities which include:
Breast Cancer Awareness
The Power of Knowing
A TCS originated education programming observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in honor of our Soror Hattie McDaniel. This program aims to educate, dispel myths, and promote early detection of breast cancer through mammography and regular self-exams.
Domestic Violence Awareness
Love is Kind
A TCS originated education program that addresses intimate partner violence in its totality (including examining relationship pitfalls to help participants break the cycle of violence). We further support this initiative with toiletry drives for battered women’s shelters.
